Announcement of the launch of the Japan Tax Practice
Tokyo International Law Office (TKI) is delighted to announce the launch of its Japan tax practice with the appointment of Makiko Kawamura as Partner who will head up the tax practice in the Tokyo office.
Makiko gained extensive experience from her time working at DLA Piper as a regional head of tax practice where she represented large multinational corporations, foreign governments and private equity funds in various corporate and tax matters. Her strength is to provide seamless legal and tax services to international clients in areas of cross border M&A, global reorganization, joint venture, licensing etc., and to manage tax risks, create tax value and provide dispute resolution. Makiko also has broad experience in transfer pricing such as Advanced Pricing Agreements and Mutual Agreement Procedures as well as customs audit matters dealing with the customs authorities. Prior to Joining to TKI, she was a partner at Ernst Young Tax where she engaged in international taxation advisory services as her capacity as a lawyer and public certified tax accountant.
Makiko will head and develop a board range of tax practice covering the corporate tax, withholding tax, consumption tax (equivalent of VAT), transfer pricing and customs duties.
